Frequently asked questions

FAQ on Italy–Europe medical transport

Answers to the most common questions on medical repatriation, costs, timing, paperwork and modes of transport.

How much does a medical repatriation from abroad to Italy cost?
The cost of a medical repatriation by ambulance depends on distance, the country of departure, the type of assistance required (nurse or doctor on board) and the mode of transport (road, ferry or air ambulance). We provide a free, detailed quote in minutes, with no obligation.
Which European countries do you cover?
We operate in all EU countries and in the main non-EU states: France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Romania, Poland, Portugal, Croatia, Greece and many more. Round-trip transfers available 24/7.
What documents are needed for international medical transport?
You need the patient's ID document, an up-to-date medical record or recent medical report, any travel or health insurance policy and the informed consent to transport. We take care of the medical and customs paperwork required.
How quickly can the ambulance leave for abroad?
For European destinations the crew is on the road within a few hours of confirmation. Travel times depend on distance: roughly 12–18 hours for France/Germany, 24–36 hours for Spain/Poland, up to 48 hours for countries further by road.
Is there a doctor or nurse on board?
Yes. Depending on the patient's clinical condition we assign a crew made up of certified rescuers, a registered nurse or a doctor on board. The ambulance is equipped with a multi-parameter monitor, oxygen, defibrillator and emergency medication.
Does travel insurance cover medical repatriation?
Many travel and health insurance policies include reimbursement or arrangement of medical repatriation. Check with your company: we can issue invoices addressed to the insurer and liaise with their operations centre to handle the claim.
Can scheduled Italy–Europe transfers for medical care be arranged?
Yes, we regularly arrange scheduled transfers of patients from Italy to European clinics and hospitals (and vice versa) for specialist visits, surgery, rehabilitation or oncology treatments. The service includes outbound and return trips with dedicated assistance.
